I am gonna fish for suckers again this spring, i am looking at this http://tidesandcurre...=wtemp_forecast
And it appears to be a bit too cold there for sucker spawning (10 degrees apparently)
Would they run up to the pools now, or are they still a few weeks away?

Also do you think a 7ft UL could handle the average sucker?

I've tried to catch the sucker run a couple of times but failed on both occasions..  To add salt to the wounds, had my buddy text me one day while I was at work complaining about all the suckers ruining his Trout fishing! lol

He never said he was going to fish closed sections lol

Things are a bit behind this year so I don't think so many of them are pushing up right now, it may even happen after the opener this year.

If It happens prior to opener I would go to an open section and use a rig that would both handle a big 7lb sucker and a steelhead. That way you could target both!

well, at my local trib (im sure you can already guess which one) we had the sucker run last a couple of weeks and i dont think a 7ft UL can handle one, the first time i saw them i thought they were carp so i brought out my 7ft MH bass baitcaster and they sure did give it a work out, as a matter of fact i caught my first steelhead on my baitcaster with 25b braid bottom bouncing  while targeting suckers, id give it a week or 2 but keep an eye out, they might just surprise us

a 7 ft ul can handle a salmon if you have the patience IN THE LAKE, I've done it before, just have a good reel with lots of line on, a sucker fights hard but you can do it for sure, i was fishing for them with a 3 wt fly rod and an ice fishing reel on it, just for fun and it held them pretty well (they were in the 10 lb range). Comparing suckers and whities? Dude shame on you, lol! Thats like comparing a honda civic to a mustang!

so 10lb suckers are baitfish??? for muskie or pike right? also if these are baitfish do we need a bait fisher license to target them or just a normal license

LOL!!!! the horsepower difference!!! my god!!! but then if its a souped up whitefish with an exhaust system, we may have a bit of competition!! just kidding! i just find that comparison funny!
