So hey OFF. I finally did it, fished a river... I now see why you all love it so much! No regrets! Although I did get into an argument with someone who hooked my boots twice trying to catch a salmon who was 2 yards away from me just relaxing.

First time out and you get a steel like that should tell you now that you should get a pin and a fly rod. Your boat will collect dust for a while. Just FYI.

And I'll tell you now it's a whole different world on the river then a lake. So if you enjoy a challenge reading water, what's hatching, what fish are feeding on give it a go. Yes you will see idiots on the river more so then a lake it's the time of year right now. Give it a month then they go away till next year then the good guys who persue the steel will be out till they head back to the lake.

Welcome to River Angling.

Wow what a first, hope you continue doing the river fishing along with the bass! And you should consider yourself lucky or maybe me unlucky, because I caught my first steel after about 90 hours of fishing hard for them.

You guys are awesome! I just need to practice a bit with a pin and maybe I will pick up one. I will say though the spinning set up was still comfortable for me, I was in that "comfort zone". I will definitely be putting my spare time in november to good use! PS is it normal for guys to be taking Roe from the salmon? I saw one guy with like a grocery bag full....

yes, that is the norm this time of year, and it counts to his possession limit as well

Excellent. If you wanna get out sometime let me know. And a pin will be easy for you since you bait cast a ton. The whole big thing is making sure you stop your reel from spinning once it hits the water. And the fun part of fighting a fish without a drag.

Yeah that's normal about the roe. Get it for steel season or people eat it. I just ran out.

Nice fish...River fishing is definitely different from fishing the lakes; it can be very rewarding at times. Good luck on your next outing.
