Was down to a popular lake O trib yesterday with member Jordan.
After drifting some roe for 2 hrs and no luck I decided to switch things up. I spotted a blue and silver Cleo in my tackle and tied it on. Third cast I let it sink while I had a sip from my can of beer. Retrieve and Boom fish on. Jordan scrambled for his net. When I got the fish close to the surface we thought I had a nice Silverbullet. He said its a Laker and when netted it was. About 7 or 8 lbs. my hands werent cold anymore. My PB Laker, I have only caught 2 and 3 lb fish after ice out on small lakes near South River.
I kept up the technique, cast, sip beer and retrieve. After a while, boom, fish on. This time was a nice 19 inch Walleye another PB.
Jordan was looking for a Cleo, I didnt have anymore. Bang, fish on again. 4 or 5 lb Laker, my second biggest ever.
The cleo also hooked and lost another 'eye about 12 or 14 inches before I lost the cleo to the river bottom.
Oh almost forgot to mention. Those were the first 3 fish landed on my brand new Mitchell 300 spinning reel I bought the day before. Maybe I should buy new reels everytime I go fishing.

Nice, I remember November a couple years ago, nailing steelhead on spoons in a trib, one after another, when the roe bite was basically non-existent. Felt like cheating it was so easy! A few days later and they stopped hitting the spoons like magnets, but you could still get a couple fish with a lot of casting.

I mean, I'd never throw a spoon for trout, I only fly fish...

roe was hot all oct, which makes sense. However, once the kings roll into the grave, gotta start getting creative.

Nice going Alf

I've been using Cleos but maybe I should try that sip of beer trick to improve my luck. I wonder which brands work the best?? I guess much research will be needed!!

My sip has been coming from cans of Lakeport Honey Lager. I used to live like 5 mins from the brewery here til they moved to Waterloo I believe.
