afew weeks ago a friend of mine was out fishing one the ice (from a boat) and got some crappies, I told him he was nuts, then today I seen ATVs out of a small lake in the Parry Sound Area, and on facebook I seen a deer getting saved off a lake near Huntsville. crazy, but then again I am going out tomorrow to cheak the ice on a small lake I know, going with a buddy and roping areselfs togeather thou, we are not stupid. I do not fish unless there is over 4 inch of good hard ice. will let yous know what the results are...

In a side note, I was fishing Rainbows near a trout farm near Parry Sound on the G-Bay, (Open water fishing-from shore) it was fast fishing, 3 of use caught 55 fish all day, kept 6 "wild" trout, but they all still have the trout pellet flavor thou.

I find those fish have very mealy meat, but holy cow that sounds like a fantastic day of fishing

Be safe out there fellers

PS. I am typing this from the ice, solid 3", no sweat...gtg just hooked into a perch

Seriously though, if I have time to ice fish this winter it will be much later in the season, you guys are brave!

I have been out on 3 inch of ice before ( I was told it was more) but I like 4 or more inch since I am a 360 pound person, and over the years of fishing I have seen ice go fast,

Afew years back we went out on 7 inch of ice at noon and by 6 that night there was only 3 good inch of ice left and we had to wade to shore... the ice had come off shore 10 feet in 6 hours, now this is more a spring thing but its just an example of what ice can do. the next day the bay I was fishing was open water.
