hello and good morning everyone. Just wanted to share this stellar video of a three week baiting campaign that paid off with some really nice fish. To those looking to get into carp fishing look no further than your local water! Lake Ontario, Erie, Port Dover, Grand River are all prime spots and if you PM I am willing to share some good spots that will get you into fish. In this video we bait up a spot for several weeks while waiting for the winds to change to the right direction to draw big deep water fish in.........and in the end it pays off. ***** not a promotional video, no revenue generated on views, please excuse the odd curse as the fish is massive! ****

thanks! yea It was a good result to the efforts. I understand a lot of guys here may not care about carping but some should give it a try......they fight hard and are abundant so in the off seasons.....they help you get through it lol

^^^

I hope to do the same this year.  Last year I caught one on a brown wolly bugger and this year I had IR4J to tie me some new carp flies.

I'm hoping to catch one on a top water fly :)

BCLT- Sweet vids.... can you recommend a strong hook for carp.  I remember I had a couple straighten my hooks last summer.

yea people are surprised to find out these fish will take flies off the top and suspended. I would go with anything crayfish, natural, or hybrid. Leeches also work great! My advice is presentation, presentation presentation as these fish can eye up a fly and deny instantly!

ah the quote function didn't work but anyways, anything heavy gage is best. I use everything from a 16 to a 1/0 depending on the area. Places that hold meat eating carp require massive hooks......sometimes trailer hook size! Tie a massive cray pattern, or leach and you will nail them! They will literally turn and chase!

ok, so a giant woolly bugger on like a size 2 hook would work, or a bunny leech

Love targeting Carp! I just use the same hooks that I will use for Bass/Pike actually...only straightened on hook on a beast that I never saw...just a huge swirl and it was ripping line! When it got to the point of spooling me...I tightened up the drag and leaned into it to try and turn him...and then *bink*....nothing! I reeled in and the hook was straight!

yea that happens and has happened to me as well. I find a link with a bit of stretch helps  but even better is using a heavy gage hook.......the thought of staring at the ceiling in bed all night thinking about what could have been..........is torture lol

This book will have you covered.  http://www.orvis.com...carp-flies/2ef7

The pattern really depends on the location and what the fish are feeding on.  Small intimate waters require delicate presentaions and small flies, san juan worms, soft hackle, various trout nymphs will do it.  bigger water require bigger flies,  bunny leechs are good on bigger water as are crayfish and sculpin imitaions.

For a beginner, various sizes of wolly bugger should get you into some fish in any water.  natural colors like olive, brown, black are best.

After catching a few carp, you may just forget about bass for the summer.
