Pool rotation is a common occurrence on alot of the easy coast Atlantic salmon rivers. Check out some of the sights, such as the Margaree river and such. Very strict and enforced etiquette when fishing the pools when others are present. http://margareesalmo.../06/english.pdf

Yup I can attest to that first hand.  Strict would be an understatement sometimes, mostly just comes down to treating others with respect though

The steel will run whenever conditions are right for them and it's still a bit to early to say for sure. Some Huron tribs didn't get any big pushes until around opener last year, other years the big run was in February. I hear the rapids were hot in June last year for steel. When conditions are right there will be fish, I was into dime fresh Steelhead in August last year. That being said there are and will be rainbows around even now but if you want the 15-30 fish days you will have to wait for the largest runs of fish.

That's an interesting read! 2 casts and take a step downstream.

Thanks for the info

Yeah, try some of the stunts that some folks seem to get away with here on a salmon river in Nfld and the results would be ......er, interesting....shall we say!!

So there isn't much hope of any fresh fish coming in by mid April? I guess I'll just have to hope for a few post spawners to be coming down then.

I landed several fish still in skein a week after opening day last year. This year will be earlier than last year by a bit, but some fresh fish are still possible. We where still catching drop backs on Victoria Day weekend.

JDean- where you off to for a trip?

Porkpie- good, fresh fish are what I want!

Sharwarma-  Try taking 2 casts per step and you'll get yelled at in some spots!  Cast, step, swing, repeat. if you roll a fish you can throw a few extra casts at it but other than that you gotta go through the pool relatively quickly

If you want fresh fish later on I would sugguest fishing lake huron and superior and forgoing any lake ontario tribs other than possibly the niagara river.
