I recently brought a heavy 8 foot baticasting rod from Bass Pro Shop. Well the grip for this rod was kind of small... especially for my huge man paws. 10.5 inches wide and 9.5 inches tall.

TO solve this problem i took some badminton grip tape and wrapped it around the hadle of my new rod. This made the grip much more comfortable for my massive hand and made it comfortable to hold too.

Any thoughts on this?

Anybody done this before?

I've wrapped a leather strip around my spinning rod grip to make it larger and more comfortable to use when the temperature drops in winter. Sounds like you did the same thing.
