Heading up to the cottage for a week for the last week of October the cottage is located close to Port Sydney. My backyard is the river. Can spit to it from the deck almost.

I know the lower area in my backyard holds pike, eyes and bass but what I am looking for are trout streams that hold trout within an hours drive from where I am. Not looking for honey holes, and everything I catch is strictly C&R. If you know good tribs please shoot me a pm. Don't want anything exposed on here.

Please and thanks.

Brook trout is closed from Sept 30 till the new year. I don't know if you'll be able to find much in the way of browns in tribs, although backroads mapbook says your branch of Muskoka was previously stocked with browns.

I'd say stay out of tribs to keep the brook trout safe.

South Branch below the falls at hwy 11 might be worth a try. They have regs to protect the spring rainbows, so maybe you can find something on the way up. I don't see anything in the regs saying you can't fish there now, and there's probably no brookies there anyways.

Whatever you do, check the regs.
