Im been doing some research on this topic. Most will say there is no migrational pattern. In my search i noticed a angler/outfitter has been tagging lakers in simcoe for over 7 years and he has kept them a secret but discloses info to the guys who email the tag numbers. Im told he has tagged trout as far up as Orillia and also the same fish was caught in Barrie. Does anyone else know of a migration? Most trout migrate so its not to hard to believe they wouldnt. These guys have been takin lakers out of 20ftow for years before people caught on in the north end. Has anyone ever caught a tagged laker? Tag colours are yellow, red and green with the email and tag number on it.
Never fished Simcoe other than from shore in the summer for little perch.
But I do think that lakers can be anywhere in the water column in the winter, even in very shallow water.
But there's probably a reason why many ice anglers go to the same area of Simcoe every winter, there's likely a great concentration of them there.
I know on smaller lakes, you can drill a hole in 15 fow or less and bag lakers.

Of all the lakers i caught in the last 5 years, never seen or heard from friends or people around about any tags.
Sounds like a fairy tale to me.

You find the bait fish you find the Lakers/Whities. That's what I know. The only tagging I know of is the clipping of the fin on the stocked fish.

That does not confirm anything. Picture can be from any body of water in the country where they do tag lake trout.
I'm just saying never heard or seen any tags from Simcoe lake trout.
I saw few perch with tags, but thats about it.
