Gonna be up at the trailer park with my newbie fisher friends(I'm only just above a newbie). Gonna spend the long weekend fishing for Pike and Walleye. We've got a fast boat and a fish finder, gonna go buy lures later this week. I'm open to trying any lures and techniques, but I've never fished any of the following lakes, so I'm not sure which ones have healthy populations of walleye and pike. 

• Head Lake
• Lake Dalrymaple
• Canal Lake 
• Mitchell Lake
• Rush Lake
• Talbot Lake
• Cranberry Lake
• Shadow Lake
• Raven Lake
• Balsam Lake

These lakes are not too far from the trailer park so we're planning to spend a day on 1, maybe 2 lakes while we're there.

Head Lake - A friend's family had a cottage there from the 50s to the 70s, and he claims it's one of the best bass fisheries around. Never fished it myself.

 

Dalrymple - Used to run a bass tournament there, it was productive. And there were a lot of incidental pike catches.

 

Canal Lake - Also ran a bass tournament there for a while, and it was good. Can't recall any pike, but they are probably in there.

 

Mitchell - I have caught lots of bass and pike there.

 

That's the only ones I can speak about with any degree of knowledge.

Thanks for your input! Once the bass season opens, I'll definitely try out one of those lakes.

I visited the lake with my buddies last weekend, but due to unforeseen hangovers, we were only able to fish for a few hours just before and up until sunset Saturday evening. We went to Balsam Lake, fished the weeds in about 8-12ft of water and hooked two walleye ~19-20 inches each. Unfortunately the only sizes of walleye allowed to be kept on the lake are >21"? and <13"? Which are good eating size. Weird that most other lakes in the 17 division allow you to keep 13"-21" sized fish only. Anyone have an idea why it is so on Balsam?

In my defense, the boat owner was the only one with the hangover, can't go if he's down and out.

I've fished Dalrymple a bit this year - if you use a crankbait in that water it'll get eaten by a pike lol I hear there's decent sizes in there but I've only pulled out smaller sized ones. I got a few vids on youtube under orilliafishing if ya wanna see 'em.
