I was kayak trolling out on big lake Ontario yesterday. I went 0 for 5 in deep water. I could hook them but loose them within 50ft of my yak. I decided it wasn't my day and I was calling it quits.

Feeling sorry for myself, I limped my way back into the river towards the boat launch. I always drop crank baits once I hit 30 FOW and into the river... Trolling along the wall I get a massive strike. I turn back to have a look and there she was in the air... My first Atlantic salmon.

My first thought was wow... is she ever lost being this far in already. I get her up to the yak and scoop her into the net. As I lift her up she starts dropping eggs.

I fish salmon and steelies like it's my job for years and this is the first time I've seen them in the river in June with loose eggs.

According to Graham Bristow's website(a perfect drift) most accidental hook ups occur around august but im sure this varies year by year especially seeing how we had early steel they might be early too but u never know

I wish. I had turned it off. Wasn't expecting to catch anything after going 0 for 5. Wish I would have though. It was an awesome fight. Looked like a little shark darting accross the top of the water with the two fins out.

Grats on your Atlantic. I'm curious if I caught an atlantic the other night and didn't realize. love man, whatever it was, I felt so bad. It was very lively and I couldn't get a good grip on the poor little bugger. *Night fishing woes*
