So you need to pay for your licence, then pay to enter a draw to fish the productive pools? If there is a separate draw for every day, thats a ridiculous amount of money to be able to fish! It def does put less pressure on the fish population, however it sounds like a major cash grab!

Not only does it sounds like a major cash grab, it is a major case of self entitlement.

Those who can afford to pay for the draws get their own limited access, while everyone who can't afford is left to fight for space on other sections or streams.

You start this system and you get closer and closer to the system in Europe...which you need to either belong to a fishing club (and pay membership fee) or pay ridiculous day use fee to fish in waters that has been declared "private" by the fishing clubs. It is a system entrenched in self entitlement.

People complain about anglers hogging pools and think they own the water...but at least you have the choice to wake up early enough, or fish on week days, to have access to public waters without paying an extra cent. If you woke up late and got to "your" intended spot late, you have no one to blame but yourself. It maintains as a first-come-first-serve system. Once you start restricting access, then the self entitlement really sets into play.

So 1200km later. One pit stop to catch some Z's I am here.

I did a bit of exploring and took pictures. Mainly with my DSLR but a few on my phone.

This is the York River.

Can't wait for tomorrow. In the mean time I'm going to go try to get some stripped bass in the surf.

Didn't know that striped bass got that far North.

yes, its daily, and enforced big time. yes its a lot of money, but i think its just for those 3 rivers, the york, dartmouth and cascapedia. that money allows them to be able to employ more people to enforce the regulations

We pay for our equipment. We pay for tackle.
We pay for our license. We pay for insurance. We pay for gas.
We pay to launch. We pay to park.
I'm with that genius FC .
Let's hope they come up with more things to pay.
Oops typo.

equiptment and tackle: money goes to the merchant

license: money goes to the province, hopefully goes to mnr

Insurance:money goes to insurance companies

gas: money goes to oil companies

if you're fortunate enough to own a boat, launch and parking fees go to the town/city

of all of this, maybe part of a $27 license fee per YEAR goes to supporting mnr. i've seen a CO on the river once, one time thats it, and its pathetic, its not wonder we have all these issues here with snagging, gutting, over fishing.

for comparison, if you wish to fish private sections, you enter into the draw, $100 per day, otherwise, you can fish a public section, you get checked regularly by a CO.  and its only for the Atlantic salmon. whats not to benefit?  you lose a little money for the PRIVILEGE to fish.  If you don't want to pay for it, guess what, you don't get to fish that species.

We have those rules for hunting, small games license, duck license, turkey license, goose license, moose tags, deer tags, bear tags, elk tags, sheep tags.  once you fill your tags, you're done for the year on that species.

We as fisherman have it easy and EXTREMELY low cost compared with hunters.

Oh I'm well aware where the money goes.
Goes from my wallet to the latest fee they come up with.
And I hope to god they never stoop that low as to privatize our public rivers and streams for a few quick bucks.
Sadly though you can bet those with the financial means are trying to do just that.
The result being a two tiered fishing privilege.
You got the cash you got the fish.
Just another business than.
That's when I hang up the rods and waders.
Careful what you wish for.

I hope to heck this never happens, $100 a day for the privellage to fish is a little fee?! I dont know about you but I could think of a thousand better ways to spend my money than to enter some silly draw for a right we already have, you are saying you want that right taken away? Maybe there would be less people on the river but let me tell you something, there are rich slobs around too! Also to add, yes hunting is more expensivebut most hunt for food, so in reality you are paying for food but also getting enjoyment out of it, where as fishing you just pay for enjoyment as not even close to everyone keeps their catch and many release.

talking for steel head and salmon in the rivers only.  MNR can not keep up.  Too many seasons open at the same time, and they are spread waaaay too thin, an increase in fees is the logical answer for the most popular sport fish, they've already discussed individual licenses.  not saying it should be $100 per day, just using that as a comparison point.

personally i've been checked twice by a CO in the 13 years i've been fishing in Durham, in my mind, that is not acceptable.

but they aren't there, otherwise, you have people gutting fish and leaving them on the banks, or all the snagging thats going on. turkey season opens up 2 days after steelhead, when the salmon are running, you have deer season, waterfowl season, plus turkey season, they're just spread way too thin

They can appoint every adult over 18 as a C.O in Ontario and this still would only cover a fraction of our available water ways. You either obey our laws or become one of the no conscience law breakers.
Any sportsman I know instills this in their children from day one that there's always rules to every game.
Eventually all law breakers get caught.
And as we all know everyone has a phone and camera at their fingertips now a days.

adapting that system won't stop illegal fishing...these people who does illegal stuff knows the penalties and fines...and willing to take the risk or stupid enough to take the risk...and most of them can also afford to pay for those extra fees to fish prime spots....illegally.

that extra money would also help pay for more people to check in on them. part of adapting that system is having people to constantly monitor the rivers
