Looking to get into ice fishing this year and want to use a newly acquired hummingbird portable to help better my days on the hard water.
Currently I've fabricated an aluminum pole to attach the skimmer transducer to so I can stick it down the hole. I was thinking maybe wrap a 3" pool noodle around it so that it floats to hopefully keep it relatively level.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated folks!

That should work, I've done the same with aluminum or wood in a pinch myself. You may have to adjust the transducer angle while on the ice, to get the beam angled down properly. Also, if this wasn't a portable unit to start with, make sure you put an inline fuse between the head unit, and the battery. Very important so you don't accidentally fry your finder, most portable units already have them built it.
