I'm in the market for a new rod. What I'm looking to buy is a 10 1/2' spinning rod for pier casting. I have a 9' ML but I want to step up to a M or MH for larger spoons and more distance. I'm not rich, but I will spend what I have to in order to get a decent rod for the money. I've been looking at the Fenwick HMX and the Okuma SST. I'm open to suggestions, though. I don't think I can afford a Loomis and even St.Croix may by out of reach for me. It depends on the pricing.

Thanks for any experiences and tips you can pass along.

shimano clarus 10' mh is one of the best pier rods on the market and at a very resonable 149.99. I fish the 9' heavy myself and am in love with it, so much so that I bought 2

Sail has the Convergence rods on sale for ~$59.99-$69.99, a wide variety in sizes and actions (there was a 10'6" MH I saw on the weekend for $69.99)

IR4J and TallOutdoorsman, I had a look at the Convergence a couple years ago but it was a lighter action. I will pick it up again and have a serious look at that price.

I'll check out the Clarus too, that's really close to what I'm looking at, and still in my wheelhouse, budget wise.

Thanks guys.

Thanks, Dilligaf and chromeaddict. I have the Celilo 9' ML and I love it. That's one reason I'm looking at the SST

edit: make that a 91/2' ML.

So I ended up pulling the trigger on an Okuma SST 10'6" Medium. It has the carbon fibre grips, too, which should be an interesting twist. It seemed like the right weight and action for the purpose. Also, it was 20% off today, so that's a bonus too. I'm putting a Penn Spinfisher V 4500LL on it and 15lb Spiderwire. Can't wait to give it a shakedown next week.

Got out for a few casts with this rod and reel yesterday and I love it.

Okuma makes a great rod for the money.

I use a 9' MH St. Croix avid. Great rod for the money.

pop-vlado, I've heard good things about that rod too. Do you use it for mostly casting?

I use it for casting spoons and lures for salmon and trout and for jigging in the Niagara. It's very light and pretty sensitive. The only better rod for that application, in my opinion, is the legend elite 9' MH
