After my last trip where I hooked my net twice while landing a fish and subsequently spending about 15 minutes each time trying to get my hook out without ruining the net or hook, I'm looking for some options

I'm wondering if anyone here has tried doing a DIY rubber coating on a nylon mesh net?  I'd rather not buy a whole new one, I'm hoping something like pasti-dip would work well but I'm a little concerned with the flexibility of the stuff

Thanks!

I should have googled more before posting.... I found a youtube video where a guy does exactly this with bondo and flexseal.  I'll try it and post results

Rubber nets really aren't that expensive, you can even buy a replacement rubber mesh if you want to use the net you currently have.

Yea they aren't too bad but I can still save half a case of beer this way. Plus I have one of those frabill folding nets, so to find one that fits it right and still allows it to fold up might be a bit of challenge

I'm interested to see the finish product.  Maybe take pics of before and after?

Did it last night, $15 for the flexseal and maybe 15 minutes of time actually spraying (5-10 mins for each of 2 coats with a half hour of drying after each time)

it turned out well, I took pictures but I cant be arsed to go through that motions of uploading them here (I had hoped i could do a direct upload).  its not a consistent as I wanted but it still looks fine, I rushed it a little and I dont have a shop or anything so I was awkwardly holding the net in my backyard trying to keep it from touching me or itself and ruining the coating.  But I would recommend it if your willing to take the time for it, 75% of the net looks like a regular rubber coated net you could buy, 15% is oversprayed so theres a couple of net holes that are almost closed, and maybe 5 or 10% is only slightly coated.  I found circular spray motions made it the most consistent, the overspray happened when I was going side to side

I'm sure it will reduce the hook ups, and if not I only spend a bit of time and money and my net will otherwise still work fine

I need to dip my hoop nets and bought couple gallons of the plastic dip. ... I would doubt its latex(water soluble) for nets...

Spray on truck bedliner available for $10 a can at Canadian tire works well enough to touch up coated nets. I suppose it would work well enough to coat a net if you put enough on.
