My elusive nemesis” the pike”

I woke up this morning at my trailer around 7am contemplating wether or not to go fishing. At 9:30 I finally said awe screw it let’s set the yak up and do some river fishing. There was a spot near my trailer I’ve never tried and figured it’s about time I did.
I got to the river set the yak up then my trusty spinning pole and a 6”6 medium action bait rod.
And set out on my adventure.
While paddling up the river toward this big Lilly pad and tree stump infested section of the river I’ve heard stories about. I encountered 4 dear and plenty of turtles along this serene beautiful back woods drop but yet minutes from a town. All that hustle and bustle of city life faded away as I got further and further into this magestic wonder.
I crept my yak back into an area that no other boat could reach and tied on a 3 blade pumpkin spinner and just started casting at the edge of the lily pads and tree stumps, working the shore line.
All of a sudden bang my rod just went crazy and the fight was on. The first thing this fish did was come straight out of the water and that’s when I realized I had finally hooked into the one fish I thought I would never be able to catch. That pesky critter was finally mine. Turned out to be a 5-7 pound pike.
After that my heart was racing and I was still in shock after the shear amazement of fighting the one fish that had always passed me by. I took a few minutes to recoup and I was at it again tossing my 3 blade spinner. I ended up hooking into 3 more pike.
I called it a day at around 3pm and started paddling my way back just watching the beauty and serenity of my surroundings, thinking of what had just happened on this day. As all of this vast back country disappeared and the hustle and bustle of city life slowly crept back at me I was just thinking, “ when will time allow me to go back”
Once I figure out how to upload pictures I will post some
Never give up, always keep trying and it will happen

Thanks BRMZ, it was a day I won’t ever forget.
If anyone else out there has some type of fish they seem to just can’t get I would love to hear they’re story as well.

Not as great as your story. But I started going after pike about 8 years ago. I almost got obsessed with them. I don't go after any other specie. I frowned on other angler friends that go steelheading or bass fishing. Not me. I stomped every body of water across the GTA that has them. I have 3 spots I know like the back of my hand whenever I get the itch...I miss them...It's just that I'm now paying back time to spend with kids and family. Still have time to go fishing but not much because whenever I go Pike fishing...I spend all day...that's how special they are for me.

I try my hardest to keep an open mind about all fishing “not saying nobody else does.” Drives my wife nuts. Every time she looks down at my peg board filled wall of tackle and soft plastics, to when she sees my rod holders with every type and size of rod you can buy from centerpin, flyrods, bait casters to spinning reels. Not to mention my new yak. And all I can say is hunny it’s not an addiction, it’s me having an adventure I can share with the kids. Making timeless memories like my father did with me.
Heck, we have wedding pictures of her in her wedding gown and me standing in the river waders on and holding her up out of the water and a fly rod. “Yep I got a keeper”
One thing I’ve always wanted to do, is to write about the outdoors. Too share these experiences of trials and tribulations, beauty and enlightenment of all the enjoyment one can have with some sort of fishing pole and an open eye. No matter where you are at.
With the days of internet, Netflix and video games we are seeing a whole new generation growing up, not knowing the excitement of catching a fish. Or having an experience similar to the one I had with that pike and the nature surrounding them.
Whenever I go out with my kids. I always take a time out, set the poles down and ask them what do you see.
