I don’t think by upsizing your hardwear you fall in to the poaching category . As long as you are getting the fish to commit I don’t see a problem with that.

I think using bigger bass hooks when using bigger baits is for better hook sets. It's how I do it anyways. When using beads, I use a step bigger hook than the bead. My hook ups got better. I've seen the salmun slayers already in the tribs...

-They're persistent

-They're deadly (to the salmon)

-They have 99% hook rate

Armed to the teeth...

Wow those are nice trebles, a bit of white colour on the weight and it will look like a marshmallow. Salmon love marshmallows .

“Floss like a boss” is the general guideline. Not that many people snag salmon

Well a bit of a report from my trip for 6 days. I managed to catch one small 6-7 pound salmon the first night out, right in the middle of that huge storm at 2 in the morning. Had a few more on through the rest of the days but unfortunately couldn’t land. Also had my iPhone stolen ended up tracing it to a bush but wasn’t there. Whoever stole it turn it off at that last location. So wasn’t the greatest trip ended up being very expensive. Note to self don’t keep phone in chair while fighting a fish off a pier when there is 500 others fishing around you.

That sucks, sorry to here. Nothing worse than a crap trip.

I once took the family fishing. Myself, wife, young son, and newborn daughter. My wife tied the baby to her and sat in her chair checking FB on her phone. Son is fishing for the first time and is swinging his rod around like mad.

I put my rod down and started walking towards him to help. He swings the rod and it looks like he's about to toss it into the harbour. My wife jumps up to stop him and in the process drops her phone. He was pretty far back so it should have been fine, but the phone bounces of the metal mooring thing and bounces right into the harbour.

She looked at me with one of those looks,

"What, I'm not jumping in after it!"

She was pissed.

I laughed.

She was more pissed.

Don't risk anything you have for a salmon...The thrill of catching salmon in the GTA tribs has escaped me...I'd rather chuck hardware at the harbours or wait for the steels.

A few ass swipes give anglers a bad name. A phone is really going to change some lowlifes life for the better. Shame , what a shame.
