Hey there fellow Anglers,

Just wanted to share with you a fishhook removal trick I found online after my own recent misadventure

Saved me a trip to the Emergency Room … and the chance to keep on Fishing

Be safe out there

Thanks for sharing. I have personally used this technique twice on fellow anglers who hooked themselves while fly fishing. One on the Credit and another at St Mary’s Rapids........However, with one difference. Instead of pulling on the eye of the hook, just press the eye down against the skin. A quick tug will release the hook, without the barb catching on the way out. Both “patients” were amazed how easily and painlessly it worked. Pushing on the eye, elongates the wound/entry point, meaning the barb is “clear”, and hook will exit cleanly. From the video, it looked like there was some resistance before the hooked exited.

Small print.......when in doubt, get a doctor to remove it😉
