You must smell better than me!

Thanks for the great POST

I use to get alot of followers..a few changes in your presentaion can change that...for one it will take a number 5 Mepps spinner Red/white/silver I use a modified one which I have cut the old hook off added a red one with white feathers( you can also add a dead smelt or stinky plastic trailer)..retreive it with pull and reel which at the end of each pull it lets it drop for a sec this usually is the trigger...or use crankbaits with lots of flash and a slow wobble..again reel in fast but pause for a good sec or two to or three times before it gets back so long casts help...or go with a big live offering..creek chub..sucker or even dead smelts work great..I prefer not to bobber them but rather drift a drop shot jig or even cast---just a hook and really slowly twith it n .( the leader and hook is enough to give it a real slow sinking effect)..the next thing is spray those baits with whatever I like Yum shad..other brands work well too..but here is another trick that gets alot of spring Pike is wacky worm..especially the followers..have got many Pike the wacky...I will even use a Fat 7"Yum dinger and sometimes the skinny 6" ..keep a rod handy rigged with one on and dont forget the steel leader...I use titanium leaders that I make..they are far stronger they dont seem to kink and last almost for ever...after you see that follow notice the direction it goes off in cast that wacky there on watch 9 out of 10 times they will take it..not sure but maybe its that the bait is now moving more vertically then horizontolly like cranks have to offer.....or the smell of those Yums whatever it is ...it'll work ..If you are set up with these things you will be able to get those followers and also sometimes you have to just leave them alone for about 20 minutes move on and come back with the next strategy..like the twitching a dead smelt...or even a live one under a float..it will work..Hope this helps some Gl best fishes
p.s I have also had lots of luck with Zara spooks and walk the dog baits like the Heddon Spittin Image but Pike seem to strike at them alot...but they miss most of the time that erractic back and forth screws up there targeting...

Well, got out today and went down to(wn)

my Secret - Pike Location

(hence the TOPIC TITLE - play on words from "licensetopins post from a few weeks ago)

Action was in the morning, very early afternoon.
As ussual, I wore out my welcome and needlessly stayed about 5 extra hours in the Wind & Drizzel ...

LOL (Greed ...for more catches)

SET UP:

-Nice big SHINNY SPOONS (get em down deep and slow) and BIG SHINNY MEPPS ( down deep & slow) seemed to be the Trick.
-6'6 Rapala Vengence Medium Rod
-10 lb Mono (No leader, just a swivel snap for easy changing back and forth)
-Old Mitchell Spinning reel (Caught a thousand fish with this baby)

Worked the waterfront.
Got told I could not fish by a "rent a Cop" (Was a nice guy)
Went to talk to the REAL COPS (marine unit - Awesome bunch of pro's) to okay my fishin in their quay.

Let (2) strangers help "NET" two monsters I had on, lost them both when they hit the line/lure due to inexperience at netting.
(Great effort however and much appreciated)

- Its tough to land and net from a 10ft wall on your own!
Took some pics (All alone *I'm so freaking lonely!)

Was a GREAT DAY to CATCH some BEAUTIFUL PIKE!

This one was BIG ...BUT: Notice that "Something else was trying to bite him"! (Even Bigger Pike)

*Let them all go so that "we" can catch em another day .....when their even bigger
(They EAT GOBIES! - My "ying/yang" for not wanting to kill em myself)

ps: It does not take a million dollars, a five hour drive, complicated setups, "perfect Weather" ... to catch some nice fish.
Get out there and Enjoy!
