#278031 Backlash with mono on my baitcaster Help please !!

Posted by efka on 16 August 2013 - 01:20 PM

you think or it slips?

set the drag tight and pull the line, you will know 100% if it slips.

even if its slips it wont slip so much to create nests

it has to do with your adjustments and casting technique

#273939 Should I take the plunge? - Simms G3 waders

Posted by efka on 05 July 2013 - 07:22 AM

I just bought a set of Bare neo's for $25. If they leak, so will the sellers windows.

you're buying used waders and expect them to be in brand new condition?

please tell other members what would you do to them if they gave you a fishing spot or advice and it would not work out as you wish it would.

i don't like the small reels, they look nice on in the store, but on ice they never perform as good as regular reels, esp the drag.

this is going nowhere....

JimCanuck, i don't know you personally, but from your hundred posts this is what i noticed:
you are not here to learn anything since you claim you know everything;
you haven't shared any reports with members of this forum;
more people complained about you than i ever remember;

what was the reason you joined this forum?

#231194 Common Carp is not an invasive species

Posted by efka on 06 July 2012 - 03:53 AM

From The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.)

"Carp are members of the minnow family and can grow to very large sizes under the right conditions. There are currently five species of Asian carp in North America that are of concern and they include: common carp (Cyprinus carpio), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), and black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus). Common carp have been in North America since the late 1800s and are now so widely distributed that they are thought of as a native species in most areas. Asian carp are considered injurious in many areas and in May 2004, the Ontario government placed a ban on buying and selling live bighead, black, silver and grass carp, this was taken further in 2005, with a provincial ban on the possession of live Asian Carp. The ban does not extend to Common Carp which are a popular sportfish for recreational anglers. Similar bans have also been implemented in the United States in many individual states."

lets put this to rest.

#221052 This forum sucks...

Posted by efka on 08 December 2011 - 06:04 PM

LICENSETOPIN, so if a couple of members from few hundred active members, posted a picture you don't like and don't think is a good idea to post on public forum, you think it's fair to start bashing whole OFF community of wrong doing? Have you even tried to resolve these issues before starting this tread? You never pm'd admin or mods to remove the pictures, i have hard time beleiving you pm'd people that posted pictures and asked them to remove, with explanation why, and sorry if i'm wrong, but i don't remember you posting a short thread about why it is important to keep the reports from little creeks out of public forums because they might get ruined.

btw, if this forum sucks, why do you keep logging in?

all this rain from 2 days ago made the creeks run very high, it was a gamble going today even though it didn't rain yesterday, the creek i went to was still dirty, vis ~6" at best, and it's known for clearing up fastest of all.
long story short went 4/7. 3.5, a pair of 6's, and a 9.5 pounder, yeah im digital now
good luck to anyone still fishing and enjoy while you can.
snapped a couple of pics to give some of you a little bit of motivation to get out there ;)
they all look the same anyway
enjoy

#208823 east nov 27

Posted by efka on 27 November 2010 - 02:13 PM

oh what a day!!!
6.40am already 10 cars in the lot. went to my spot to find it empty, few guys to the left, few to the right, but none where i planed on fishing.
still dark, you can barely see the float. good thing i brought my tiny flashlight for tying on hooks. solid hits right of the bat and few 4-5 pounders landed within minutes.
2 broke off, think they were 6-8 range. when roe bite slowed down, pinkie did the magic on the first drift.
then it slowed down again, wind started picking up and it started snowing. changed to my secret fly, first cast, float down..... big splashes, still pretty dark, fight on!! 5 min later pulled the monster out, though it was male salmon, this thing was huge.... not even close to my fish from last week.
didn't take camera this time, was by myself, Dozer got scared by -2 temp and few snowflakes.
then it slowed down for an hour, big winds continued to make fishing not an easy task, had to put on bigger float as it was impossible to cast against wind with 3.5g.
few guys gave up and left the river. soon enough wind was gone and lots of snow made it look like it was reel Christmas on the shore.
got another decent fish, this time took a pic with my iphone, was about to throw it in the river for a no flash option. should of taken my bb.
anyway this fish is way smaller than the one i caught in the dark. overall awesome day, weather conditions made the fishing little tougher, and those who were out could of tested their skills. went 9/12, all lost fish were solid hook ups, bad knot i guess.

#208809 Steelhead jigs

Posted by efka on 26 November 2010 - 08:43 PM

rabbit fur jigs

very simple and again effective for trout
can be tied in different colours

Posted Image

there are two kinds of rabbit stips that you can buy,
regular cut and cross cut.
i use crosscut, they hair will lay back after each wrap
regular or straight strips makes the jig look like a fur ball

attach the end of the strip and wrap your thread around to the jig head

Posted Image

when you reach the head give a couple of thread wraps, cut the strip and whip finish the jig

good luck

#208808 Steelhead jigs

Posted by efka on 26 November 2010 - 08:42 PM

marabou jig

pretty simple and effective jig

when tying marabou jigs, i don't wrap all the way to the end

Posted Image

apply some marabou, don't take too many marabou strungs as it will not hold as good as doing few at a time.

Posted Image

on this jig i will use 2 colours, it will be easier to see
try not to over do and make your jig too big

Posted Image

add few more strungs and whip finish

#208807 Steelhead jigs

Posted by efka on 26 November 2010 - 08:42 PM

here is a guide how to make your own trout jigs.
these are 3 types of trout jigs that most steelheaders use 85% of time, in different colors and sizes.

first is the famous woolly bugger.
if any fly fisherman would have to choose one fly, this would be it.
some tie it on a regular hook sliding the bead on it when fly fishing, i like it on the jig hook. why, it stays in horizontal position when i float fish.

Posted Image

attach the bead using a pin needle

Posted Image

some marabou to make a tail

Posted Image

now we tie in the hackle (i use grizzly sadle ) and chenille at the end

Posted Image

wrap the chenille towards the jig head and tie it

Posted Image

now do the same with the hackle
whip finish the jig, and add a drop of nail polish
