set the drag tight and pull the line, you will know 100% if it slips.

even if its slips it wont slip so much to create nests

it has to do with your adjustments and casting technique

i don't like the small reels, they look nice on in the store, but on ice they never perform as good as regular reels, esp the drag.

Have you even tried to resolve these issues before starting this tread? You never pm'd admin or mods to remove the pictures, i have hard time beleiving you pm'd people that posted pictures and asked them to remove, with explanation why, and sorry if i'm wrong, but i don't remember you posting a short thread about why it is important to keep the reports from little creeks out of public forums because they might get ruined.

the boats are closing in, here is one from this morning at pc

all this rain from 2 days ago made the creeks run very high, it was a gamble going today even though it didn't rain yesterday, the creek i went to was still dirty, vis ~6" at best, and it's known for clearing up fastest of all.
long story short went 4/7. 3.5, a pair of 6's, and a 9.5 pounder, yeah im digital now
good luck to anyone still fishing and enjoy while you can.

oh what a day!!!
6.40am already 10 cars in the lot. went to my spot to find it empty, few guys to the left, few to the right, but none where i planed on fishing.
still dark, you can barely see the float. good thing i brought my tiny flashlight for tying on hooks. solid hits right of the bat and few 4-5 pounders landed within minutes.
2 broke off, think they were 6-8 range. when roe bite slowed down, pinkie did the magic on the first drift.
then it slowed down again, wind started picking up and it started snowing. changed to my secret fly, first cast, float down..... big splashes, still pretty dark, fight on!! 5 min later pulled the monster out, though it was male salmon, this thing was huge.... not even close to my fish from last week.
didn't take camera this time, was by myself, Dozer got scared by -2 temp and few snowflakes.
then it slowed down for an hour, big winds continued to make fishing not an easy task, had to put on bigger float as it was impossible to cast against wind with 3.5g.
few guys gave up and left the river. soon enough wind was gone and lots of snow made it look like it was reel Christmas on the shore.
got another decent fish, this time took a pic with my iphone, was about to throw it in the river for a no flash option. should of taken my bb.
anyway this fish is way smaller than the one i caught in the dark. overall awesome day, weather conditions made the fishing little tougher, and those who were out could of tested their skills. went 9/12, all lost fish were solid hook ups, bad knot i guess.

rabbit fur jigs


very simple and again effective for trout
can be tied in different colours



there are two kinds of rabbit stips that you can buy,
regular cut and cross cut.
i use crosscut, they hair will lay back after each wrap
regular or straight strips makes the jig look like a fur ball

attach the end of the strip and wrap your thread around to the jig head



when you reach the head give a couple of thread wraps, cut the strip and whip finish the jig

marabou jig

pretty simple and effective jig

when tying marabou jigs, i don't wrap all the way to the end



apply some marabou, don't take too many marabou strungs as it will not hold as good as doing few at a time.



on this jig i will use 2 colours, it will be easier to see
try not to over do and make your jig too big



add few more strungs and whip finish

here is a guide how to make your own trout jigs.
these are 3 types of trout jigs that most steelheaders use 85% of time, in different colors and sizes.



first is the famous woolly bugger.
if any fly fisherman would have to choose one fly, this would be it.
some tie it on a regular hook sliding the bead on it when fly fishing, i like it on the jig hook. why, it stays in horizontal position when i float fish.



attach the bead using a pin needle



some marabou to make a tail



now we tie in the hackle (i use grizzly sadle ) and chenille at the end



wrap the chenille towards the jig head and tie it



now do the same with the hackle
whip finish the jig, and add a drop of nail polish

nice bow tangledline. you should try river fishing some time, i'm sure you would like it,
