Salmon still biting once in the river?

So my friends and I decided to try something new. We normally cast spoons at the river mouth but decided to hunt for salmon in the river. We went to one of the local tribs and after doing a bit a searching managed to find a nice deep secluded pool where 6+ salmon were resting. During the time we were there we didn't see another soul since the pool was only accessible if you had waders. We offered them roe, worms, trout worms, spoons, inline spinners and cranks. Not a single bite so I was wondering if anyone ever caught a salmon in the river before and what was it caught on?
