#315206 What a complete dick.

Posted by tangledline on 06 September 2014 - 10:29 PM

anglers are stewards of their sport. if they want the fishing to be better they must practice conservation of the resources. do not mess with an ecosystem that has existed in these waters before man did. when you see violations such as the ones posted in the vid call your mnr enforcement officer and make a report...its the best thing you can do legally.  more violations that are reported = more enforcement officers required. maybe one of you get hired as one and do to the violators what we all are thinking should be done.

#315201 FYI - There are no real fish in Ashbridges Bay / Tommy Thompson Park

Posted by tangledline on 06 September 2014 - 10:05 PM

Bottom feeders....I have caught bass, walleye, brown trout, perch, bowfin, blue gill, pumpkin seed, crappie all taking bait from the bottom. My knowledge of bottom feeders is to my advantage and opportunity.

Carp are my 2nd favourite fish to catch after bowfin. Very happy to know that most of you will not be competing with me for the opportunity to catch one. I really like fishing for suckers in the dead Don River too.

If I had to fish for bowfin, carp and suckers standing shoulder to shoulder along the banks of the rivers trying to fair fish for my catch while others illegally snagged them before me then I would be an angry angler too.

I would rather fish Toronto in my little spare time then wait to go outside the city fishing the three times I would get to otherwise. I have caught bigger and better fish in TO waters than anywhere else I have fished with the exception of walleye and muskie. I grew up in Peterborough and Ottawa....I would rather fish Toronto. Thanks to you for making the drive out of Toronto to fish!

Greater Toronto Area Salmon Migration Enforcement Blitz

October 21, 2013

The Ministry of Natural Resources laid 90 charges totaling $10,930 in fines during a two weekend enforcement blitz on Lake Ontario tributaries across the Greater Toronto Area.

During two weekends in September and October, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Peterborough, Guelph and Aurora districts, Lake Ontario and the canine unit, along with OPP police officers from Toronto, as well as Durham, Halton and Peel regions, checked over 450 anglers on many of the tributaries. Officers conducted uniformed and plainclothes enforcement operations related to the fall salmon migration.

The blitz resulted in 90 charges for a total of $10,930 in fines. The most common offences involved snagging and netting fish, fishing in posted sanctuaries and fishing without a licence. Ten individuals were also issued summonses to appear in court.

The Ministry of Natural Resources would like to thank members of the public for making over 110 calls to the MNR TIPS line for suspected unlawful harvesting during this year’s salmon migration across the Greater Toronto Area.

The Ministry would like to remind anglers that it is illegal to intentionally hook or pierce a fish other than in the mouth, or use tackle such as large treble hooks weighted with sinkers for the purpose of foul-hooking fish.

For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the 2013 Fishing Regulations Summary at ontario.ca/fishing.

To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time, or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

#289535 Toronto Recreational Fisheries Plan

Posted by tangledline on 05 October 2013 - 09:44 AM

salmon and trout anglers are frustrated by the amount of poaching on the streams and rivers.

if you want something done about it show up at this public meeting....not one or two guys representing 100 but 100 guys expressing that the problem is way bigger than the MNR is giving attention to it. The more effort that anglers make in communicating Their concerns on poaching the more likelihood that your complaints will be heard. Complaining on a forum creates awareness and discussion...calling the MNR informs someone on the frontlines there is a problem...they may not have the resources to help.

Showing up in person at an official MNR TRCA public meeting asking for your input is where your complaints will be heard by senior staff that are involved in writing the regulations, enforcing them, and allocating the budgets for enforcement staff. Want the biggest impact for your complaint....show up to one of the 5 meetings and politely express it during discussion time in the last hour of the public meeting. Please empower yourselves by making this effort...you can make a difference with poaching problems this way.

#272692 fishing is banned in toronto harbour...$2000 fine

Posted by tangledline on 14 June 2013 - 12:08 AM

Fishing a year later after the no fishing signs came down.

June 12, 2012 Councillor Fletcher presented a speech at The Gladstone Hotel at a Lake Ontario Evenings Event. Councillor Fletcher had just come from City Council after introducing a motion that would remove the "Ban on Fishing" along Toronto's waterfront. "The Gone Fish'n Motion" had begun its process through Council with immediate results the next day. Councillor Fletcher and her fellow Councillors had the "No Fishing Signs" taken down June 13, 2012 . We owe Councillor Fletcher a huge debt of gratitude and thanks.
Exactly a year later June 12, 2013 Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassador attended a Technical Workshop for The Greater Toronto and Area Waterfront: An Urban Recreational Fisheries Plan. The Final Project Charter June 2013 is attached please give it your attention as the work and effort that has gone into it is a testament to the dedication of the partners creating it. One year after the "No Fishing " signs were taken down we have a solid plan in action for the future of recreational fishing for Toronto and Surrounding Area. Remarkable and wonderful vision and work by all the partners involved with a special thanks to Councillor Fletcher.
Recreational Fishing now has a solid foundational plan for Greater Toronto and Area Waterfront. Momentum and synergy are on the side of the "urban angler" and The Partners that steward our wonderful fishery. We have expanded our Family Fishing Events in early July and there is much more to come in the near future.  We hope you are finding the time to enjoy the fishing opportunities at your doorstep.

Thanks for all the Fish!

#231196 Great Lakes Bow Fishing Championship

Posted by tangledline on 06 July 2012 - 08:08 AM

i noticed no response to killing trout or salmon with a bow and not using them for food but for waste.

killing any living thing... mammal or bird or fish just to kill it because you believe it doesn't have a place in the local eco system goes against many religious beliefs and ethics.

It is illegal to kill birds and mamals because people do not like them in their back yards....you kill the raccoon in your back yard or the raven for eating plants in your garden and your in trouble with the law.
you own your backyard and are not allowed to make these choices so what gives any one here the power to decide what should be killed in our public bodies of water???

your are advocating killing living things only to waste their carcasses..this is against the law specifically with fish and the MNR regs.

i am aware that the MNR is monitoring this forum....i email to an enforcement officer daily on the progress of the kids programs i am working on.

the MNR monitor these forums just like the police do child pornography sites.

when you guys start posting pics of trout and salmon that you catch and the MNR see where your fishing i will bet they will be checking out your fishing practices after your promotion of killing and wasting fish.

grow up!......kids with mental problems go around killing and wasting living creatures for fun.....your not a kid....you do not have mental problems....you have ethical problems that you need to work on.

#231192 Great Lakes Bow Fishing Championship

Posted by tangledline on 06 July 2012 - 01:28 AM

ask all the trout and salmon anglers how they would feel if there were people bow fishing their streams and rivers during spawning seasons and killing the trout or salmon and then dumping the trout in a dumpster to use as fertilizer.

carp are very simular in fishing experience as bonefish.....they are often refer to as the freshwater bonefish.

the desire to see carp killed off in the manner in which you have posted pics is well... quite disturbing...i believe promoting this kind of killing is something PETA would be interested in.

Nado is your address up to date on your profile if the police come knocking on your door?

killing carp in such a manner is no differnt than torturing kittens to the PETA organization..

my opinion has not mattered.....when they begin investigating you for promoting animal cruelty we will see if your opinion matters.

did a recent serial killer not get his start the same way???

i find these carp killing promotional material upseting and i feel for the safety of our local carp

PETA will be in touch Nado.

Posted by tangledline on 08 April 2012 - 11:48 PM

i love fishing for all species yeah i have my favourite and its the bowfin...2nd oldest species in our lakes...bet ya didn't know that....
talk about politics...brown trout are an invasive species introduced by man
but so were the four forms of asian carp....so were the common carp
funny thing brown trout and common carp are the two hardest fish in ontario to target to catch based on their intellegence and survival instincts.
i like fishing for both....
for me to kill one species to save the other is wrong in my little world...i wouldn't....
if i had seen the guy killing carp like i have in the videos of the american's asian carp fishing like road warriors then there would have been
a floating body of a fisherman drown in the river....but eh thats my opinion....i once put a guy in a coma for three months for shooting a gun at my employees and customers
and my paid duty police officers.so i guess yeah i might save the meek from the predator but only within my species ......

#226911 toronto port authority gives hope to all who fish

Posted by tangledline on 27 March 2012 - 09:16 PM

A huge thank you to the Toronto Port Authority....
this organization has shown class and integrity all the way.....
from the moment we were in contact with Michael Riehl Deputy Harbour Master
we have been given his ear to our complaints and problems...
he has listened....he has been understanding....he has been respectful
he has been a voice of reason in a time of crisis
his efforts to find clarity in the "muddy legal waters" has been of great help...
we will never be able to fully repay him for his efforts and time....
he has our thanks and our respect
sincerely
dave clark

ps we can start repayment by keeping his port clear of litter and being gentlemen when we fish....

#224306 Harbourfront Pike - Anyone down to give it a shot?

Posted by tangledline on 19 February 2012 - 06:55 PM

update: feb 18 and 19
fished the three harbours at foot of spadina quay
feb 18 no pike...sighted two carp..one actually surfaced in front of me .
both carp had been following my lure...one stayed on the bottom as the other followed the retrieve to the surface.
feb 19 had a couple of hits but they were strange in that they were pulls with a bit of head shake...brief attacks...
few minutes later a solid hit...head shakes...a strong enough run ...i knew i had a pike....another run headshake....
line bit off....i had a 6 inch sampo leader that cost $6 how was i bit off ???
i re-rigged and with frozen hands tried to re-locate that pike....
4 casts later i know i'm being followed...but water clarity was poor
2 casts more and i've been followed to the wall by a 3 foot gar pike
2 more casts to intice a strike and she just sits in front of me....
i take some pics...water is not clear...but its worth a try
i tried 3 more times....she swam away towards the deep....
near the end of my day i found a 3 foot regular pike just lying 2 feet up from the bottom in about 18 feet of water
a few casts slowly along side of her.....she turned on it...got a good look at it...i shoulda sped up...and she swam away to the deep.
its the middle of february....i got a smile on my face ....february is never this good...it feels like late march....

#208389 Any help catching Bowfins?

Posted by tangledline on 16 November 2010 - 08:38 PM

best bet is to try in april, may, and june
sight fish for the bowfin in the shallows from shore or boat
use polarized glasses....look for bowfin lying on the bottom like logs...like pike do
or watch for their unmistakable cruising...they use the fin on top and it has a wave move through it that is "s" shaped.
if you find one throw a worm or a crayfish in front of it....no more than 4 feet away from its mouth
wait....and wait.....the bowfin will smell the bait and swim to it...inhale the bait....and you better set the hook well...bone for a jaw
then good luck...you are now in for the fight of your life....land the fish....and do not offer it your fingers as it will remove them.
you need to find an area near london in which they inhabit....try the bowfin sight on the internet....they have a section called maps
in this section is an area called canada....you will find red dots on a map of ontario....with stories of the fish caught there....
some of these fish were caught around orrila and georgian bay....north of collingwood....thses may be easier spots to find bowfin.
check the mnr listings for fish contained in the lakes around you ...if bowfin are listed...then try the shallows in the spring.
start here and i will answer your questions as you learn more from the sites like the bowfin site.
just google bowfin for some sites.
