#315319 dont fish near my dock

Posted by salmotrutta on 08 September 2014 - 12:14 PM

That's bad luck coming across a nutbar like that.

Most of the docks I fished this summer, people were extremely friendly. Most of the time, the anglers of the group would come running down to the water, asking me if I want a cold beer and giving me their go-to lures for the lake and explaining the lake structure.

When you get really lucky, you get a group of bikini glad women on water trampolines, but that's rare :)

#313684 Little Update

Posted by salmotrutta on 12 August 2014 - 07:05 PM

Just want to add 26 inches for a smallmouth is not a mutant lol! These fish get very long....

First of all, a 26" smallmouth in and of itself would be an absolutely remarkable fish, anywhere in the world, and could be considered a mutant simply due to its length.

Second of all, I was implying that a 26" (...or was it 29" and 31"...) smallmouth weighing only 6lbs would be a mutant, ie. a deviant from the norm, because at those lengths they should weigh much more.

Who ever said anyone was jealous? Why are some members trying to put others down over this?  Sheesh.

Part of a forum is allowing more experienced anglers to educate, whether it be on techniques, locations, lures, or accurate lengths, weights, and weight to length ratios of fish.

We are lucky to have someone as experienced as Muskie Bait as a contributing member of this forum.

I missed the part where he said anything negative to anyone. Some of you need to re-read this thread from the beginning, realize that you are in fact the negative ones, and edit your posts.

#309961 Algonquin Park Fishing

Posted by salmotrutta on 11 June 2014 - 04:09 PM

If you're allowed to bring worms, do it. They can save the day. Worms will work very well for all of those species, a great time to use them is just as it's getting dark near drop offs for bass.

Worm imitation plastics would also work well.

A portable fish finder would help if you want to catch lakers. If you're not planning to bring one, at the very least try to get a bathymetry map of the lake.

Fish very early in the morning, from first light. Also fish dusk til after sunset.

Bring proper bug wear - I got decimated by bugs last Saturday - I will not be going up north again without the right gear.

#308148 Mods, Please shut down the "pre season invasion" thread.

Whitebucketophobia: Irrational fear of white buckets, particularly in fishing, especially when used to keep small, undesirable fish, that occur in large numbers and are very easy to catch and will never be overfished because they are so goddamn prolific, such as panfish, suckers and bullhead.

#306594 2014 Opener! Lets See What You Got!

Posted by salmotrutta on 30 April 2014 - 09:27 PM

Can't just go by looks. If you're looking for a GF consider using this ad:

Haha looks are always nice - a pleasant personality is important too. I tried befriending an uglier girl once, thinking that a meaningful relationship (plutonic or sexual) could arise from a good friendship. Well I was wrong, the entire ordeal was an exercise in bad decision making, and it turned out her "looks" matched her "personality". The only thing I learned from it was if something looks like sh*t, smells like sh*t and acts like sh*t, it's probably not gold, it's probably sh*t! Never give someone the benefit of the doubt.

Only trophy gals for me from now on. She's gotta have the looks, the brains, and the personality :D

#305150 Opener

Posted by salmotrutta on 14 April 2014 - 11:46 AM

Well, the water is going to clear up in the higher sections this week, after tonight there isn't much rain in the forecast. There will be time to scout.

Some years, you'll find them in large numbers spawning in March way upstream. This year is a much later run. They'll just be arriving in some of the higher sections now and in the coming days.

Many will swim as far as they can, until they literally can't get any further. They'll venture off the main path and take forks as necessary.

Scouting is like a roll of the dice, you just get in the car and drive around, until you find places you want to fish come opener. If you're lucky, there won't be a throng of people there to join you.

Lots of lakes have separate rules - do not go by what was posted above - check each lake individually because it may or may not be open!

#301876 Steelhead Run - 2014

Posted by salmotrutta on 02 March 2014 - 11:22 PM

Lest we forget, if the ice melts slowly and we have a dry Spring, some tribs may not be blown at all. I agree with the general consensus of a later thaw / run, but still many variables at play. And to quote Kramer, "Mother Nature is a maaaaaad scientist!"

holy crap thats more dead fish then in bowmanville, lol did you see any bows or bull trout?

None that I could identify, some bows would have been present in that system but I think they will be arriving over the winter in greater numbers.

Taken about 1 hour ago. Mostly chum.

I have a video too, but it's filmed sideways and can't find a way to rotate it on Photobucket.

#278896 I love Dollarama!

Posted by salmotrutta on 21 August 2013 - 05:28 PM

The first and last spoons you posted both work excellent, the last ones seem to be new this year, I have done well with them. Out of all of their spinners, I only buy 1 package, but it works well even on steelhead and salmon.

Once you discover these lures, it's hard to go back to the $5 ones.

#246693 Can I ask why Blair is banned?

Posted by salmotrutta on 29 October 2012 - 03:11 PM

A bunch of guys on the forum ganged up on Blair, and started getting underneath his skin, like children (see above posts re: hugging fish - obviously Blair wasn't advocating hugging all of your fish). Blair got pissed and two people ended up getting banned, including Blair. The mods have to do their best to keep everyone happy and to abide by the rules, they are volunteering their time and ultimately I think a 30 day "cooling off period" isn't really a ban, they're just doing their best to keep everything running smoothly, which it wasn't anymore so obviously they had to take some action. Hopefully Blair comes back, and in the future the agitators should get disciplined, not the one who is being agitated. I've never seen Blair trying to get underneath anyone's skin, he's usually the first to welcome noobies and offer advice. You don't have to agree with him or be his buddy, but there should be zero tolerance on this forum for immature flaming and agitation of a member, especially one with decades of fishing experience all over North America.
