In Topic: How do I separate handle from auger section?

24 March 2014 - 07:24 AM

I have this baby. Its an old swedish model. The handle is threaded onto the auger part. The thread is a very fine thread and the auger part is a differrent metal than the handle. In my case the threads actually rusted away and I ended up welding the handle to the auger. They were always hard to separate because of teh fine thread and the tourque you put on the auger when you drill through teh ice tigthens it even more. But if your case I'm guessing they are siezed together. Put the auger in a vise and put a pipe wench on the handle. It may still take some work to get off. Good luck

Not sure time is going to chnage much. It's been -30 for several days in a row in January and February and the slush is still there. We are getting rain this morning changing to snow this afternoon. Good news it is getting colder so the machine tracks on the ice should freeze up and make it a little easier to get out. It will still be messy off the tracks. With snowshoes you will at least stay out of the water, but its still going to be a workout. Forecast is sunny and -8 for Sunday..........

Thanks..........

Captain Barty is right. Most years there is heavy equipment out on the ice building or working on boathouses and island cottages. Having said that, right now there is about 15" of snow and 5"of water on the ice. Its pretty hard slogging to get anywhere if you are walking. Bring your snowshoes on the 23rd if nothing changes.

Ice Rescue Training kind of sums it up. My brother lives in Port Perry and said Scuggog is in full swing. Lots of ice, lots of activity..........
