#324620 First taste of brown gold action

Posted by FISHCHRIS on 05 June 2015 - 07:52 PM

Was recently away on some vacation days, managed to fight and land three of four fish battled.Got to the river on day one and the water was stained, tied on one of my bucktail streamers and was working some of the pools, was able to fool a couple of the browns oh just awesome to see the golden flash role and smash the streamer :D .Second day water had cleared up quite a bit so was a little tougher with the streamer, but day two produced one brown kind of by accident, was tangled up a bit and working on sorting that out whille my streamer was hanging near to the river edge and got smashed, crazy where some of the fish are hangin.Day two also produced my largest fish of the trip although i was not able to land that beauty what a fight on the 4weight setup, wow when they get in the current they feel that much stronger and bigger.Days three and four didn't produce any fish or bent rods but had the pleasur of seeing a couple of smaller fish role on my fly but not fully committed to smashing it.Got to do a bunch of hiking, sight seeing and nature observing while out with the rod.Weather was great not to warm not to cold, last couple of days the sun was really heating up and humidity was creeping in though.Had some of the usally goofs, trips, slips, snags in river and out,but only lost one streamer.Again just recently started tying some streamers so really neat to get some action on some i tied up.Here are some picsDSCF0735_zpsm5gcpira.jpgDSCF0762_zpspnc4e3cx.jpgDSCF0744_zpswupjfile.jpg

#305957 First few fish of 2014

Posted by FISHCHRIS on 23 April 2014 - 10:19 PM

Thanks everyone for the replies, I'm down in the far southwest ontario zone 19.All fish were caught and released, that carp almost broke the net man what a tank, one of the biggest fish i've landed. The perch was decent size for where i fish, and the pike was fun but they keep most of the perch away when around as they are patrolling and looking for a perch snack.Down this way the weather has been up and down as well, first couple of trips out even down here the ice was still hanging around, water temps have been cold but slowly warming and the winds have been a mixture of northerly or southerly and decent amounts of sunshine. All these fish were taken on a new medium light action 7' spinning setup, really liking the tip action compared to a medium action i would typically be using anyway just great to get some fish on action :D .

So i've been out 3 or 4 times so far this spring, last couple of times managed to hook up with some fish, landed some and lost some as well. Here are some pics perch, pike and carp.Just been using a drop shot set up with tx minnow. Was cut off a few times so had to up the #test of leader line, those pike. The carp was a bit off a fluke as hooked into someones lost rig that was still attached to the carp anyway it put up a good tug of war and pulled some drag on a few runsDSCF0441_zps80d1bf2c.jpgDSCF0443_zpse02517c5.jpgDSCF0448_zpsf2299ffb.jpg

#274350 bowfin on a bugger fly

Posted by FISHCHRIS on 11 July 2013 - 09:29 AM

so got into this bowfin the other day, it hit on a red krystal bead head bugger i was fishing as the water color was a bit murky.Initially i thought i had a decent sized lmb on but when it got a bit closer i realized it was a bowfin. It took off like a torpedo into the weeds but i was able to get it out, had to use my landing net.The fish took the fly in pretty deep, needed the hemos to remove the barbless bugger, it came out no problem. These fish have a bunch of small sharp teeth, but the berkly big game green mono tippet i was held up strong. Here's a shot of the fish.DSCF0342_zps43db36b3.jpgIMG_2912_zps0d34b5e3.jpg
