New to the board, based in Toronto. I’m in the market for a 13’ GLoomis centerpin rod (Model: STR 1563 GLX CP). Wondering if there are any custom rod builders out there that can build a rod that is comparable to this at a lesser price point. I have little to no knowledge about graphite blanks and the terminology used these days but am looking for the following:

12-13 ft. - 2 piece - matt black in color (I'm aware that Loomis does not sell GLX blanks)
Medium-Light Action (4-10lb)
Recoil (nickel-titanium) guides
Layered (multi-colored) rod cork
Sliding rings (not a fixed reel seat)

If you're a rod builder, PM me and let me know what your price point is.

Thanks for the interest.

Rino

The Loomis GL3 is a Matte black in color blank which are no longer available like all loomis blanks,The Rainshadow IST 1562 13' is Matte GREY color very similar looking to an IMX blank and the action is closer to a loomis and quite a bit cheaper then a loomis GL3 if you can find one that is.The XST Rainshadow blanks are Titanium in color but they are a faster action blank then any Loomis or an IST Rainshadow. CTS are sweet blanks too but are costly but if your looking for a blank that has a similar action to a loomis cts may not be your thing,They are super light in hand a fast tip. A custom rod can be done for much less then 6 bills unless its a cts blank or similar with all high end components a Rainsadow would be anywhere from 300-500 depending on components used.

The IM6 Ravens for the most part are very soft rods almost a noddle at least the older 13' 2 piece and the 15' 3 piece surely are.The 11'6 IM6 Raven is a different story much heavier rod underrated in line weight imo and is not a good rod for light leaders or floatfishing in general unless its for Salmon. Its a more appropriate rod for bottom bouncing or throwing hardware then floating for steelies. I can not comment on the IM8 i have built a couple but have not fished one though if i had to pick one i would go with the RV9 its a sweet rod a little more money though.
