In Topic: Anyone interested in commercial tying?

Hi Chris, just a new OFF member today.  Saw your post and was wondering what type of flies are you looking for your commercial tying.  Also if you are still looking for someone ...we should definitely talk.  I am partial to Classic Salmon Flies( hence Classic Rusty Hooks).  If you type "rustyhooks.ca" in the http bar, little thumbnail of me should pop up.  I also have great product for gifts and looking to move sales.  Let me know and maybe we can work out some details

Hey Rusty, I actually have it all sorted out now, but thanks for the offer! I did take a look at your site, looks good! Only thing that I'm curious about is the fly in your logo, did you tie it?

To be honest , i have tried to contact him ( on here through PM and also through his site ) about doing a order and have not gotten a response back that was a few months ago. So dont know what is happening with him, to bad he does some nice work.

Hey wooly bugger, sorry if you tried to contact me and I didn't get back to you, I do try to return emails and messages as quickly as possible.  It's been crazy around here the last couple months, leaving my old work for a new job and tournament fishing, please excuse my tardiness. Please, send me a message and we'll work it out if you're still in the market. To anyone else looking for me it's true I'm not really on the site anymore so the best way to contact me is email.

That's not a big fly, these are big flies!

I would go to Natural Sports in Guelph, With a Fly in Mississauga, or Grindstone Angling in Waterdown (Or go to one of the other 3 GTA SAIL's, talk to Steve in Etobicoke, Darek, Sean or myself in Vaughan or Matt as DJean suggested in Oshawa). As for the line a traditional line is tough to manage for a beginner, and on that rod a skagit will probably overload it, personally I really like a scandi.

Depends on the size of the river too, Wilmot you'd want something pretty small vs the Niagara where you could go huge potentially.

What you're doing wrong isn't really something that you're doing wrong at all. There are 2 kinds of rabbit strips, zonkers and crosscut, zonkers are cut at a straight angle going down the rabbit and so they wrap like a dry fly hackle like you described. Crosscut is cut going down the perpendicular direction from zonkers and the hair slopes off of it, these are meant for wrapping. What you have tied will probably work just fine, it'll just be a little bulkier than most. For steelhead it's usually purple, pink, white, black, same as any lure for them. For jigs you can use a jig with a bait keeper, just take some side cutters and cut the keeper off. Otherwise use the bead and pin method.
