Inland Niagara fishing, shoreline preservation, healthy river ecosystems. I love sharing my passion for fishing with my friends here at OFF. I have fished in many countries but give me good ol' Ontario any day. I am a jig fisherman and in the early/mid seventies, friends and I ordered our first boxes of jigs from Nortwoods tackle thru Al Lindner and Fishing Facts magazine because we could not find any decent jigs in the province, we used Shakespeare ultralights as we grew up in Port Dalhousie and had the place to ourselves for years! Fishing, jigging, are part of my soul. I get passionate. I don't like a lot of things about the sport, the art. The degradation of our waterways (especially in Niagara) seems to pick up speed with each passing year. Poor planning regs by municipalities puts pressure on our fishing spots, on the fishery and surrounding/supporting ecosystems. "Bad anglers" add to that degradation thru targeting out of season fish, littering, ignorance etc... the rise of the fishing media star on tv and the web has done nothing to promote the "sport" in a good light in my opinion. Fish are handled poorly, barbs are used, nylon nets in boats, mixed messages on ethics of angling for pre spawn, spawning fish.... There are many things obviously i love about fishing and one of them is meeting new passionate people and sharing stories and pics! But enough about me! How are you? What have you done this year to better the fishery? The surrounding environment?
