#326130 Catching salmon on empty hook?

Posted by FrequentFlyer on 17 August 2015 - 08:24 PM

Top water flies catch salmon, just not as effective but it is sure is fun. Coho and chum salmon are a favourite salmon species to target on top water flies.

yea yea yea.....you alaskans with your 5 species of salmon to catch.......hahaha

Last year most rivers were locked up at the end of December however there is one big river always open about an hour from Toronto.  Bring a rod ;)

Steelhead will still be in the rivers and fishable for sure.  I am sure there will still be a lot of open rivers and plenty of fish to catch come December.  That is when I start to enjoy the rivers more.  Less crowds, and cold weather.   Might just have to slow it down a bit and fish a bit deeper with egg patterns (beads or yarn) and nymphs.  Tandem rigs with indicators work well

#299884 What do you prefer to fish...Salmon or Steelhead?

Posted by Diana Danger on 23 January 2014 - 12:57 PM

lol, you consider the little bushes in the east tribs as forests? man oh man, you have got to fish a g-bay trib, then you'll se what a real forest looks like! lol.

Dude, it doesnt matter where I am.  If there are trees and running water, thats where I want to be.  The reason I'm out east all the time is because its where I live and I like to fish before work, after work and during work. LOL

Just because she frequents the east ditches doesn't mean that's the only place she fishes. For me I don't care where am at...I show up, the fish show up....that's all that matters.

Trust me I cant wait to get on bigger river in the spring.  I'll just have to make a day of it so its worth the drive!

#299753 What do you prefer to fish...Salmon or Steelhead?

Bit late on this but to me personally salmon are a lot more predictable once hooked and although they pull harder (really no argument there) its not as exciting as some of the things ive had steelies do while hooked

ill take both though as they are both a good time and better then the alternatives...

as for "dat salt", ive spent more time doing ocean then anything and i still prefer a river

The last couple of trips out has been with my boys.  Always fun watching them get excited hooking into a fish and the smiles and laughs they have when they land one.  I was even outfished this day. lol

The best was hearing my boy say "Dad, I caught two fish, I can't believe it!"  Too funny.  They definately want to go again with me.  Start them off young.

#296731 Are SIMMS really all they are talked up to be?

Posted by fishing with a fly on 05 December 2013 - 03:27 PM

im surprised you don't own shares in simms......since you have almost everything out of the catalogue! simms warranty is by far the best

Simms isn't publicly traded but I do spend my money on a quilaty product and they are plus they look cool I believe spend more the first time saves you money in the long run more often then not with that I do own things that are not simms as well
