was in chicago last year with my inflatable and hit 3 spots. from my research and outings, the lakes aren't very pretty. murky water. however, they have a great deal of species in chicagoland. lakes will contain bass, pike, musky and walleye all within city limits or the burbs.
busse lakes and skokie lagoons have tonnes of species and have free launches. not sure about shore fishing. also checked out mazonia which is a bunch of former reservoirs and industrial lakes. tonnes to explore but that's outside joliet. ned brown preserve should provide shore angling opportunities for many species as well.
also, get down to the illinois river past peoria at some point and do some redneck asian carp fishing which consists of boating upstream and zapping the water and having hundreds of carp jump into your boat or net. just wear a helmet with face mask or you will end up with a broken jaw like that girl it happened to.
Hey rhymobot,
Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely check those areas out.
