#332718 Skunked on Opener? Vent here...

Posted by DitchWizard on 25 April 2016 - 09:39 AM

Some Huron tribs were stacked, others slow. My opener was fun floating down a river till an oar lock broke going into a set of rapids. With a few km of white water ahead of us and no way to take the boat out or go back we had a hairy ride down trying to control a 16' boat with a couple paddles. Lucky I had a buddy with me who is a pro fly guide on the river and spends a lot of time in a drift boat. Some nice steelhead and browns were taken swinging flies as well

#323711 Carp Boilies

Posted by DitchWizard on 03 May 2015 - 08:31 PM

Guys, I've been stalling but I really have to weigh in on this one. Who in God's name would ever target a carp??? They are the ultimate junk fish and extremely destructive as well. Within a week or so they will be congregating in an inlet just up river from where I live. They will be spawning in about 1' of water at the edge of the reeds. These are 30, 40, 50 lbrs.  Anyone who wants some, pls come down to my place and take as many as you can with you. Thks. Cheers.

Although carp are not listed much in the regulations they are not considered coarse fish so snagging them is illegal. They are actually fun to catch

#322955 Split shot pattern. Help please.

Posted by DitchWizard on 14 April 2015 - 04:12 PM

For years I fished a weight free leader but I did away with that some time ago, I now I often put more than one on my leader. For most of the water people fish on here (smaller slow moving creeks) I personally would rarely add shot

#322163 Trout Season Around The Corner - Any Spot Suggestions

Posted by DitchWizard on 21 March 2015 - 04:49 PM

Alright so there's another thread on here about the north its regs and conditions and that's all cool but it takes how many guys here to pile on and drag the guy through the coals. I would have taken one guy to simply and polity inform him of the rules and maybe throw him a pm of some spots if he was nice. Happens over and over here, some guy asks about info on some stagnant water trough and it turns into the hottest thread in months

east both get runs of rainbows in the spring but not as big as the west

#321947 April Steelhead

Posted by DitchWizard on 14 March 2015 - 03:33 AM

The steel will run whenever conditions are right for them and it's still a bit to early to say for sure. Some Huron tribs didn't get any big pushes until around opener last year, other years the big run was in February. I hear the rapids were hot in June last year for steel. When conditions are right there will be fish, I was into dime fresh Steelhead in August last year. That being said there are and will be rainbows around even now but if you want the 15-30 fish days you will have to wait for the largest runs of fish.

#315242 Salmon for the table

Posted by DitchWizard on 07 September 2014 - 11:55 AM

Lake Ontario's is pollution has to do with it being the lake of lowest elevation and decades of industrial waste. It is the lake where all the runoff from the other lakes collects, the steel mills in the US had a big effect. Just because it looks clean doesn't mean it is.

I sure wouldn't eat any fish that they recommends zero servings a month but you guys can have at it if you want. As far as flesh, I don't bonk that many fish but I have never seen any white flesh in any bow or salmon I kill.

#308138 I landed the same steelhead three times in four days

Posted by DitchWizard on 16 May 2014 - 10:42 PM

I just surprises me especially the last day. After being hooked twice, (one time the hook popped at the end of the fight) he takes the bait again and burns three of my fingers going on a 125yr run. He apparently has a fondness for whole dew worms and big orange beads lol

For me this is another slight justification of my fish handling and release methods. I don't think it would have made it the 200m back upstream and begin feeding again if I miss handled it. I also got the pleasure to tussle with this fish multiple times.

Thanks for uploading thos pics, the bite was certainly on that morning.

That fish in the last pic was a lot of fun. He came in hard and fast and slammed the bait then gave a great fight for a fish his size. What an attitude and it looked like his gut was going to burst, He certainly had the feed bag on.
