Thanks LordMykiss- and a thumbs up for that handle! Would you say then it may be better to fish more north where they may not have started spawning yet?

Alfiegee: Thanks I'm definitely going to look into that.   When you guys say st Marys do you mean the rapids area or are there tribs I should look for?

Once again, thanks for the info guys

not very familiar with other areas, but essentially prime steelhead waters are zone 16 and 17 and they have pretty much the same regulations. there is zone10, 7 and 14 being more west. give or take few days, i assume they all spawn same time. they actually become very active as soon as ice is out. takes few weeks to swim, make a redd, find a mate, spawn and guard. and the opener is 25th of april. meaning they are there much earlier than you are planning to fish. not sure how more of west is though. now that said. depending on how warm it gets, you can actually get drop backs from the spawned out fish mid april. so dont lose hope.

i hope you catch some. i would assume they be spawnning in full force mid april and not many are coming up from the waters you are legally able to fish. never say never, but good luck. this is strictly for lake ontario from the east to pretty much around mississuaga.

Question...What makes a good baitcaster?

from what i understood. castability, and the adjustment of the magnets for the same reasons, and the right ratio for the type of bait used. highest ratio are for drop shooting(soft bait) in and around structures. slower ratio for crank baits and hard lures.

I would assume drag is important, but if you see bass guys they use ropes to fish so i dont think they care either.

It looks like US retail is $8.99, not sure how much cdn retail will be

http://www.dicksspor...ala_Shadow_Raps

anything right now with exchange and import tax is at least 20% more minimum.

rapala quality has gone down a lot since last 10 years. i bought a j11, the lip broke on a deep dive, returned it and got a second one, fish got snagged, got my lure back, the paint between the join chipped, 1 fish lol.

as far as  this lure it is just a jerk bait. not any more special than the husky jerk. is it worth the buy? only if you dont own a husky jerk or get it for free.

for that price it opens a wide door to many manufacturers that have better colours. yo zuri for example.

from what i understood, fish like erratic movement and lures that move randomly catch the most fish. this lure you do it yourself, hence it is not special.

@catfish take out all hooks excluding the tail hook. i did that with all my hot n tots and flatfish. unless your lure is massive, chance of you not setting the hook on a <12cm lure with one hook is very little. unless your fish was tiny. you can always change to a single hook also with the point pointing upwards.
