#314259 ***Early August Salmon Run Confirmed***

Posted by coldfeet on 23 August 2014 - 08:40 PM

Welcome to Looganville. Between FB Twitter and whatever other media I'm too old to care about it seems like people everywhere are becoming attention whores. Is it necessary to photograph and document every fish you catch then let the world know? does this enhance the moment?

#308595 The Ultimate Photo Thread

Posted by coldfeet on 21 May 2014 - 06:22 PM

Since I usually fish alone and don't bother with pics I  was lucky enough to have a guy nearby take this for me. So there I am. Great thing about waders is they hide the "lump"...

#292377 Every little bit helps. W.I.T.O.-walk in trash out

Keep up the fight buddy, I don't understand how one can call themselves an outdoorsman if you leave garbage behind, gives all anglers a bad name

#292371 Every little bit helps. W.I.T.O.-walk in trash out

I've been getting in the habit of bringing a garbage bag and gloves and picking up trash when I hit the river, figure if enough people see it being done it might encourage others to at least be more conscientious about taking their trash out with them. Amazing what gets left behind, this morning found a huge bag that had roe in it that must have been there a while, because it was full of maggots too. The usual discarded mono which can be fatal for waterfowl and other birds, packages from hooks, lures, shot, etc., empty beer cans bottles, plastic bags and oh so many waterbottles. A piece of metal fencing. Disappointing to see how lazy people can be . Walk in trash out. It's simple really and ten minutes does wonders. Keep Ontario beautiful

#288945 pinners vs fly guys

Posted by coldfeet on 02 October 2013 - 06:05 PM

Not sure the thread will accomplish what you intended it too. I think of a quote I've heard, not sure if it was Kennedy about Americans going to the moon not because it was easy- because it was hard.If fly fishing was easy everyone would do it. I enjoy the challenge of trying to a) locate fish B) select a fly that will fool a trout c) present the fly in a realistic way. My next challenge is to tie my own fly and catch a steelhead with said fly. Why does one method of fishing have to be better than another? Why do I fish in the first place? It's certainly not to put meat on the table, my reasons will be different from yours or anyone else for that matter. I enjoy the float rod and the fly rod in fact, usually bring both. Drifting with a pin is awesome. What's better? Only you can answer that once you've tried both methods.

#287837 Naming water!!

Posted by coldfeet on 26 September 2013 - 06:56 PM

How about just keeping everything regarding catches off the net. Keep the forum for teaching methods and rigging etc. I for one am making it my new policy. I don't need to let the world know every time I catch something and I don't need to document every catch, the fish are much better off than waiting as I fumble for my camera. It's nice especially if it's your personal best to have a photo agreed but the experience for me isn't diminished if I don't document it. I opted out of Facebook a couple of years now. I personally don't understand the need for this constant "attention whoring" and posting the minutiae of my existence. The salmon run is what it is annually a circus but anyone can figure out the rivers where it happens, they're no secret, timing of the runs can be kept secret though, perhaps a secret initiation and oath of secrecy is in order for OFF members? ;-)  ;-)

#284748 Shotting Patterns help for river steelhead

Posted by coldfeet on 11 September 2013 - 07:17 PM

I had trouble when I began float fishing figuring out if I'd shotted correctly, it's something you play around with depending on conditions. I like the smallest float I can get away with but sometimes you need bigger ones, your cast is also affected by float size in my opinion. I've been going with bigger but less shot too instead of a dozen or so.

My brain hurts from all this edumacatin'...big flies big line small flies small line don't wanna chuck 24's with an 8wt line or big streamers with a 3wt ... anyone else want to wade in here? just do it, it's fishing you learn as you go
