#335517 The Ultimate Photo Thread

if they put even 5% of the cash theyd dropped on atlantics into steelhead wed have a great fishery and wouldn't be saying where are the fish. once atlantics start being stocked in the ganny steelhead will be forgotten about. It seems they only want to drop money on atlantics and lakers because they are native to the great lakes, steelhead, browns  coho Chinook and pink are all introduced species so no one seems to care about them anymore. all you have to do is look at the US steelhead where they stock heavily have great returns and can support a put and take fishery. The amount of fisherman taking fish for meat and eggs is massive compared to the 80s and 90s where they was less pressure and more fish.

If you support the atlantic program you need to give your head a shake and look deeper into what is really happening to our fragile fishery.

Darrin

atlantics did not become extinct because of species introduction, Its because of pollution, de forestation and high water temperatures. Sure the lake is a bit less polluted but headwaters and lower sections are urbanized water temperatures remain high, no trees for shade or bank stabilization. Why would they make a comeback under basically the same conditions in which they became extinct

I understand what you are saying, but realize that the Atlantic program has benefits for all migratory fish, not just salmon. If it weren't for the "bring back the salmon" program, there would be little to no funding for things like habitat restoration or fish counting technology.  These next few years will be the last attempt to restore the Atlantic fishery, but steelhead, browns and coho/chinook will continue to benefit long after it's over.  Maybe then they will start to put more resources into the next best thing -- trout!

I like to look at the glass as half full ;)

#334944 DIY iSUP/Kayak Mods

Hey strangers! Hope you are all having a great summer.  I for one, hate summer.  I have a slight allergy to the sun and I just cant stand being hot in general.  Nevertheless, I have been out a few times on my SUP and I was able to capture enough footage for a couple short videos(1 min or less).

Here is a video of the board fully rigged:

#334407 Atlantics??

I have a good idea of where you are fishing and yeah, I nailed a bunch of them in the spring.

I'll be surprised to see them survive, the % is very low...wish they would use that stocking for other species but they seem determined to get the atlantic back in action.

The Atlantic program is great for all of our migratory fish.  The money invested in creek rehab projects or the video fish counter that will be installed in the ganny, will have a positive impact on other species. I believe this is the last "kick at the can" that the MNR is taking to restore the Atlantic population.  The next few years are crucial!  C&R! HANDLE WITH CARE!

#333331 Help with Bass Identification

Posted by Diana Danger on 11 May 2016 - 03:41 PM

Was just using a 2" small plastic lure. Was casting toward the center of the pond, about 10-15ft north of that tiny deck on the east side of the pond. There were about 10-12 other people fishing as well, some using jigs, plastic crickets, and spinners.

jvrginz.jpg

I was under the impression that this was reliable for panfish, it's what my friends had taught me to do a few years back. Again, it wasn't intentional, I didn't realize it was a bass until i pulled it out and my friend pointed out what it even was - it's the first time I've ever fished in Ontario.

For what it's worth, I did read regulations (and bought my licence), and at the point of realizing it was in fact a bass, unhooked and released it. Again, it's literally my first time catching a fish by myself, so I don't see the reason for why there is so much finger pointing. Not the way I learned to effectively correct people if they were for whatever reason misinformed. I'm sure you all can imagine since it was my very first time, there was a degree of excitement and adrenaline involved, yet despite that I immediately unhooked it and made sure it went on it's way, I didn't stop and pose for a photo with it, or carelessly beach it for an extended period of time. 15-20 seconds max. The photo was taken by someone else in the time it took me to simply set down the rod and hook so I could hold the fish in the water for it to go back. If you guys want to hall monitor, then great, you got me - not like I didn't already acknowledge and take responsibility for the catch when I posted the topic to begin with, but whatever makes you feel validated is fine with me.

Kind of lame to join a forum and you are met with a raised nose for simply being new or asking questions. At least I am asking questions and called myself out on what happened, I'm sure there a ton of people out there who know very well what they are doing and exploit or poach regardless. Guess that's what I get for making my experience visible for others to critique; lesson learned, lol. Wow. Great way to start a pastime.

Don't take it too personally, we are all just very passionate anglers. I'm not surprised you received the type of response that you did; since you are new to the forum people will be quick to judge. I think every member has experienced it, me included. Just keep on keepin' on and the hostility will subside.

First question is why do you need this?  And yes there is. Its an infra-red pyrometer.

"The little red book of fly fishing" says you are fishing blind without one. Not sure if the same rules apply for migratory fish but I thought it made sense for native trout streams during warmer months.  Whats your opinion on it??

My hut is where its (going to be) at!  Fish fry on the ice. I used those non stick bbq sheets when I went camping and they are amazing! You can cook anything on them.

#319887 Fall Fish Porn Contest By Fishheads $480 in Prizes

Posted by Diana Danger on 01 December 2014 - 01:03 PM

I finally managed a nice shot of my Mo this year, I just transformed it into a pencil moustache yesterday. Immediately I regretted not rocking the pencil mustache sooner and getting some fish pics with it. Oh well, there's always next year.

Nice stache and steel, bud!

Haha, I put the trolling motor battery in the wine box, those "benches" are used as tables (could be used as a bench but support is needed underneath). There are so many things you can do with the boat, check out YouTube!

#316596 Beads above hook?

Posted by Diana Danger on 25 September 2014 - 03:55 PM

I went to Jamaica recently and was talking to a local fisherman, asked him if he had ever tried fly fishing and he said, "what is that?"

First, let me learn how to fly fish then I will move to JA and have a monopoly.  GENIUS.
