Spring fed rivers with natural reproduction tend to get earlier runs. It's not uncommon to see fish beginning Mid-July in these rivers. As said before day length windows are a major factor in both salmon and steelhead runs (steelhead more so in the spring than fall) that most don't take into consideration. It seems like every year we debate whether there are early runs happening, when in reality runs are very consistent from year to year. Those who study run timings closely know when they should be on the water.

I would wait until september before worrying about salmon in the rivers.  mid August pier fishing will start,  september the runs will start.  its not going to be a full month ahead of schedule, usually differs by a week or so.

Anyways, Ill  be carping untill october when the real chromers fire up.  boots, silver or black still arent all that great of a fish to catch unless your downrigging on a boat in the summer.  Ill just wait til october and grab up on some already dead carcasses to fertilze my garden, other than that, Ill leave the chinnies to the loogans.   my 2 cents

Yep!! The more people who think that way, the better I like it!!

#312771 A little shocked :( RANT to a select few tourney anglers

Posted by Nick Mckenzie on 28 July 2014 - 11:13 PM

Im not going to get to specific because I'm sure some of the people lurk here.

I was fishing a local lake around me this weekend. There was I local club tounry on a small lake. I'm actually surprised this lake still has fish given the size and pressure it gets. Long story short... Pulled up to the launch at 4 after the dzn or so club guys got their boats outta the water. Had my aunt out for her first fishing trip and my gf. I got a 32" 6.7 lb pike so I was happy ( like I said. Big pike small lake). When I got to the launch there was a 3.5 lbs largie floating not 10 feet from shore. My gf looked behind the boat and noticed a 3 sitting sideways one the bottom. I LOVE to eat fish but also practice management. That big girl went back and any big bass I get. Even on big lakes like Simcoe. I HATED to see these fish dead and discarded. There is no was they were alive in the wells when they are dead 10 feet from shore. I wish people would ask other boaters if they wanted the meat if they didn't want to eat it. I understand fishing for sport an tournies but don't waste dead fish please. It only gives all of us a bad name ( professionals, parfessional and weekend warrior alike).

Please change your water and keep frozen water bottles on board to keep the oxygen
levels high in your wells

I'm glad I seen atleast these two. My grandparents love bass. I was able to take them and fillet them. Just hate to see needless waste.

Rant over. Thanks all

Salmon rely on hours of sunlight first, before temps and water levels. Facts are facts.

I don't believe a wave ran yet. Pics or it didn't happen.

Hi I've heard and will be going to try river mouths this weekend. My buddy's said their are fish that pushed into the rivers due to the rain that feel last few days. I will be trying lake o tribs very soon for early silver fish

probaly will get skunked, there at a lot of factors to get salmon this early in the year. don't jump the gun and end up getting discouraged when they do start to come in in 2 weeks

#309555 Illinois Smallies!

Posted by MadocFlyGuy on 04 June 2014 - 03:05 AM

Nice report but not alot of fish.

So? The point of this comment is what exactly? No where in my post do I state/imply that I came back to Canada the Illinois state bass master champion.... I literally had 45 minutes to fish, and the last time I checked, I was writing these for my own enjoyment - if other people enjoy them, it's a bonus - I'm sorry if this does not impress you, but trust me, that is the least of my intent, and quite frankly none of my concern.

well hate to say it but in my experience, roughly my whole life. I havent had a single problem with anyone local around here. sorry i may use a generic term but im not to mind set on race. sorry i can't tell the difference between japanese, korean, vietmanese, asian or whatever i honestly dont care. I've never had problems with the locals around here except during salmon runs poaching the eggs and what not, every run in ive had with over fishing, and littering has been due to the asian, chinese, korean or whatever community. especially when the land owners go out of their way to place garbage cans to clean up the water and you see them come in mass groups with cases of beer, lots of garbage from fishing tackle and shrimp they buy at the store. i don't see any of them to make an effort to clean when they leave let alone release the fish. as of 2 people going up to a group of about 15 to complaine... no thanks i rather call MNR and let the ''Do" something about it. im not being racist, im clearly stating a valid point. yes not all asian korean ect do this but so far thats how it looks. you can say awh this kid is being racist all you like but i dont have a problem with them being asian. i have a problem with how they treat my home town.

Hey if i dropped 10-15k in a civic it would smoke a mustang haha.

if you were thinking of dropping 10-15k in to a civic why not just buy a mustang to begin with?? :) I'd much rather a muscle car than a supped up sewing machine !!

Lots of lakes have separate rules - do not go by what was posted above - check each lake individually because it may or may not be open!
