help with salmon/trout season zone 16

02 October 2015 - 10:36 AM

Hi Guys,

I've spent hours last night looking at the reg's for zone 16 for salmon/trout which mostly closed on sept 30th, but there are some extended areas.

My issue is I can't figure out if the Ausable river, starting from a point on Sylvan rd/ Fossil Rd near Arkona heading towards Grand Bend at Lake Huron is open or not or if it is a part of the extended season.

Its tributary i can't quite sort out as there seems to be variation on information and even maps out there and the mnr site doesn't list Ausable river, just Maitland tributaries and other tribs listed..

so im confused and would love some help from some of the vets out there or someone more knowledgable for this area as this is only my 2nd year fishing in sw ontario. my next step is to call the ministry but i thought i'd try this first.

Want to do some float fishing for trout/salmon this sunday but only if its legal.

ANY help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Sharon Creek, Delaware

25 September 2015 - 10:43 AM

Hi Guys,

I had the afternoon off yesterday and decided to hit one of my favourite spots in Delaware, Sharon Creek.

Population of fish seems to be primarily Carp, Catfish and Sunfish with the odd large mouth in there.

It was a really nice afternoon and I managed to land 5 carp on corn rigs.

A good majority of them seem to be at the surface eating bugs and what have you, so its pretty cool to just watch schools of them move about the pond jumping at bugs.

Last year i spent the bulk of my time there carp/catfishn' and landed many each night.

A great place to take kids or just enjoy an evening while catching something that is usually over 5lbs :)

Getting later in the season so every time you can get out now, is a bonus.

Tight lines!

Ausable River , Arkona

18 September 2015 - 02:35 PM

A quick report of the Ausable River near Arkona, Ontario.

Was there yesterday afternoon from 3pm til 8:30ish (sundown).

I had to use my head-light to get back up the side of the bank back to my car :)

Well there were some bubbles.... lol

Gorgeous afternoon , but only one catch. A 5-6 inch bass that swallowed my 3/0 hook and plastic stick worm but was so small that when i set the hook, the rig turned sideways and "chip-munked" his mouth.

Only the very end of the hook point grazed the inside of his cheek.

It was pretty funny when i brought him up. :)

I wasn't just bass fishin' either. I switched up rods and threw some trout baits (roe & dough), also some corn for catfish or carp, but nothing having it.

I've caught catfish, carp and even a rainbow trout there in this spot, but for whatever reason, be it the warm weather, maybe bait selection, line, water quality/visibilty or the fish gods saying no.... it didn't work out.

That being said, ill be back again soon to try my luck, as its beautiful there especially in the evening hours.

The Mill Pond, Dorchester Ontario

14 August 2015 - 04:35 PM

Hi Guys,

Just joined this forum, but have been watching it for a year now and finally decided to contribute.

I live near London, Ontario and have been venturing around from Strathroy, Delaware, London, Dorchester and Arkona area to see what fishing is good where.

My home town is Fort Frances , Ontario..... very close to lake of the woods and the best fishing there ever was as a kid.

I moved to SW Ontario at 13 and moved out to Victoria, BC at 23 where I started fishing again.

Obviously since moving back to SW Ontario I've been trying to find the best spots around for different species.

I've read as many reports as I can for this area but have found it's limited or dated sometimes.

SOOOOO...... tonight i'll make a report of The Mill Pond in Dorchester..  and start helping Anglers in my area with whatever information I can give based on what I find.

FYI, I fish 3-6 days a week after work and weekends and had a great experience last year getting my feet wet with Carp and Catfishin' as that was something new for me.

I enjoy bass, pike, walleye, perch, trout, crappie, bluegill fishing as well. So you will find reports on all of the above as I make the time this year and going forward.

Not a pro, just an enthusiast so don't crucify me :)
