dec 09 toronto harbourfront
yes it was cold but the sun warmed your face
ice was forming all day in the bays close to shore
areas that were not frozen at noon were at 5pm
conditions throughout the day were changing
sun to cloud...open water to hard water,,,zero wind to big gusts....still water to white caps
1pm sighted a male steelhead and tossed him the spinner i was pike fishing with
the spinner was a yellow large paperclip spinner...surprised that the trout followed it patiently
i walked the boardwalk with the trout obediently following the lure....then it struck..i loved watching this...first a hard bite...release then a nip
the trout circled followed again....eventually i spooked him.
found him again and he followed again...i elicited a hard strike and set the hook....i lost him 5-6 seconds later...hook did not set well
its hard to set the hook with ice covered braided line and ice filled rod guides
found another trout later...followed a purple spinner for 4 minutes ...appeared to attack it several times but did not inhale it....
no trout caught and landed
but lots of fun to be had
on dec 07 i battled a pike for 6 minutes...on and off the hook...i keep losing them but i also keep finding them
i gotta just fine tune my game...i fix one weakness of my presentation only to make a mistake i know better about.
but i love it.

Nice report.
I would switch the braid for mono now.
Braid will ice up and as far as I know, there isn't much you can do about it. Mono will last a lot longer.
With mono, you can use vaseline or chapstick on the guides and you should be good to go.

thanks for the advice and support....much appreciated
i got out for 5hours dec 11 .....
where the water had been clear on the 9th it was cloudy today
some iced over areas had returned to soft water some were still iced over
two hits today....at the distance limit of my casting ability....
4th cast of the day and fish on....for a moment i thought it was gonna be one of those days
you don't forget...
but.....the fish...ran like a pike...soon took my leader and trophy spoon....i did see a water boil just as i lost contact
4hours later no further evidence of any fish in the lake....i did some exploring....no luck
back in a known area....i got a solid bite....in the second i paused to make sure it was on it released the lure....
but i met a guy from detroit who lives here now and was born in trinadad....
lots of great fishing stories and experiences...shared knowledge...i felt like i was listening to a fishing show....
and on top of it all...it was warmer...

Wow! Great story! And good to hear you're getting out, even in the middle of Downtown T Dot....and I call myself "FishingJunky"!
